A lo largo de sus siete ediciones anteriores, el manual ha crecido para incluir todos los desarrollos y avances en oncología. Para esta 8.ª edición se han incorporado los principales desarrollos en inmunoterapia y tratamientos biológicos y dirigidos. La obra pretende seguir siendo lo más completa, actual y concisa posible, sin correr el riesgo de quedar rápidamente obsoleta, algo que habitualmente ocurre en los libros sobre esta especialidad. Como en sus anteriores ediciones, la obra está dividida en cuatro secciones que recogen todo lo necesario de la especialidad. La sección I presenta los principios del diagnóstico y el tratamiento del cáncer; las secciones II y III se centran en las neoplasias específicas siguiendo un formato y una estructura uniforme, y la sección IV explica las complicaciones del cáncer según la afectación orgánica final, ya sea por invasión local, metástasis, paraneoplasia o tratamiento. También sigue incluyendo los interesantes apéndices con glosario de nomenclatura citogenética, las clasificaciones de la Organización Mundial de la Salud de las neoplasias hematopoyéticas (2016) y pautas o regímenes de poliquimioterapia de mayor utilidad para tratar los linfomas.
